Self Seeking or Seeking God?

Our culture has changed from thinking of others to thinking of and preserving self. We are living in a self absorbed, self indulged and selfish time. We should not look to those in leadership, political office or others to set the example as they too have been contaminated and influenced by the onslaught of this culture. When given an opportunity, most fail at doing what is right if they can get by without being found out. We have gone from an autonomous society to independently acting for the cause of self.

Christ forewarns us, “that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear].  For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane,  [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good,  traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God,  holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith]. Avoid such people and keep far away from them.” 2 Timothy 3:2

So it comes as no surprise that this is the reflection we see in front of us today. The enemy has been working his plan since the Garden of Eden. He is steady and subtle in his efforts to erode our foundations, question the depth of love Christ has for us, and tempt us to act on our own fruition because “surely we know what we need and is best for us”.  Just as Satan tempted Eve by his craftiness, he is using the same means on us today. The enemy attempts to wear the saints down and out by deceiving, disabling, discouraging and diminishing our view of God’s love for us and the promises He has guaranteed every believer. Instead of seeking God, trusting Him and  claiming each promise, the enemy taunts us with false promises, platforms and purposes. For surely, God wants us to be happy and live a fulfilling life here without, heartache, loneliness, rejection, hardship, loss, and physical pain. What hogwash! God wants us to be satisfied in Him alone! This life is not about our happiness and seeking the means to have happiness, it is about living a life holy as unto the Lord and being purposeful in it.

Let me remind you sweet one that 2 Peter 1:3 says, “God’s divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” God through Christ has given us EVERYTHING we need. “He is the good shepherd and lays down His life for His sheep.” John 10:11. So, whatever your plight is, there is only one true lover of your soul and that is Jesus Christ. Instead of letting the enemy define who loves you and what to pursue to find love, “define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is an illusion.” ~Brennan Manning

Christ has not only fought for you but He won!

“So let’s do it—live full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. And that our God will liberally supply  (until full) our every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus! Hebrew 10:25, Philippians 4:19

What is your current view of God?  Why do you think you need something else to enhance your life?  Why isn't God and His plan enough for you? How can you grow closer to Him and reap the benefits of what He has for you here in the midst of struggle?

Father, I love that you never give up on me and that you are patient with my shortcomings. Lord forgive me for thinking and putting other things/people before you. Renew my heart and mind to your truths and let me seek you and your promises alone. No thing or person will ever fill my life with promise, passion or purpose like you. For you created me and know EVERYTHING about me. There are no surprises, disappointments or unanswered questions you have about me. You continue to seek me out and love me beyond what I can fathom and comprehend! Dispel the enemies lies from taking root in my life and let me cling to and claim all that you have for me as your child! I love you Lord!
